The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show
For Immediate Release
The 75th Pin Oak Charity Horse Show scheduled to begin March 18, 2020 has been cancelled.
A determination will be made if Pin Oak will be scheduled at a later date.
As a result of ongoing community efforts to halt the spread of COVID-19 and a recommendation by the United States Equestrian Federation that all USEF licensed competitions be suspended through April 15, 2020, The Pin Oak Charity Horse Show scheduled for March 18 through April 5, 2020 has been cancelled. We will continue to monitor impact of containment efforts and determine if the show can be rescheduled for a later date. We have great respect for the Pin Oak tradition and the resiliency of the equine community, but we echo the sentiments of USEF that the health, safety and well-being of our Pin Oak supporters and that of their horses is paramount.
More details will follow as available on sponsorships and other matters related to cancellation of the show. We want to thank everyone involved with Pin Oak and appreciate your understanding.

Dear USEF Competition Organizers (Licensees and Managers),
The health, safety and well-being of our members and that of their horses is paramount to USEF. We are continuing to closely monitor communications on the COVID-19 Pandemic from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the World Health Organization (WHO), the U.S. Department of State, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, the United States Olympic and Paralympic Committee (USOPC) and the Fédération Équestre Internationale (FEI).
Effective Monday, March 16, 2020, all USEF owned events, selection trials, training camps, clinics, and activities will be suspended for the next 30 days. Additionally, USEF strongly recommends that competition organizers suspend all USEF licensed competitions across the country for the next 30 days. For those competitions that do run, there will be no accumulation of points, scores, money won, qualifications, or rankings toward any USEF awards programs, USEF owned event, or selection to a US team during this 30-day time period. This includes USEF National Championships.
A paper copy of your horses Coggins, Vaccinations and Health Certificate dated within 21 days of arrival must be presented at the check in gate upon arrival . A $100 print charge will be added to your show bill for all emailed health papers.
HEALTH CERTIFICATE UPDATE EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
All of us at Great Southwest Equestrian Center want to thank everyone for their patience and understanding surrounding our health paper requirements for horses showing here this spring. Although this was done for the welfare of our horses we also appreciate this adds another expense as well as another task to everyone’s already full plate.
Starting June 17, 2019 we are going to amend the seven day health certificate requirement to 21 days prior to arrival on GSEC property. For horses showing multiple weeks during the fall and winter season we will offer the following extension policy: If the horse will be returning to GSEC in 45 days or less from the date of issue of the initial health certificate the owner or agent may fill out a Declaration of Horse Health form in lieu of another health certificate. This extension period may only be used by horses that have been on the property and already presented a health certificate. This form is currently available by contacting Amy Uniss-Coleman at email@example.com.
All horses returning after the 45 day time frame will be required to have another health certificate.
Please be aware that the requirements for a negative Coggins test dated within 12 months and vaccination records that show that the horse has been vaccinated for Equine Influenza Virus and Equine Herpes Virus (Rhinopneumonitis) within six months prior to entering the grounds will remain the same.
If you vaccinate your own horse(s) please save the receipt from the purchase as well as the serial number and expiration date of the vaccine as well as the date it was administered.

HEALTH REQUIREMENT CHANGES EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY
During the Texas Winter Series at the Great Southwest Equestrian Center (GSEC) two horses developed fevers of unknown origin. We followed our isolation protocol which requires horses with elevated temperatures be immediately removed from the premises. We also reached out to Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine and local veterinarians for additional guidance.
After the end of the Series we learned two other horses that showed at GSEC tested positive for strep equi. As a precaution we have cancelled the upcoming GHHJA show and will complete a deep clean and sanitize the facility. Every stall and the surrounding areas will be scrubbed, rinsed and disinfected within the guidelines provided by the consulting veterinarians.
For the immediate future we will require health certificates for all horses (showing or non-showing) written within seven days of arriving at GSEC. The health certificate must state for the past 30 days the horse has not been treated or seen for reasons that might be associated with an elevated temperature or exhibited any symptoms associated with strep equi.
All horses must enter the grounds through the Mason Road gate between 6 a.m. to 7 p.m., unless prior arrangements are made. All horses must be accompanied by health papers (current Coggins, vaccination records (USEF GR 845) and health certificate) or they will not be allowed on the grounds—there will be no exceptions. Please have a printed copy of these records to give to the “check in” personnel.

What is a misting system?

Who invented the system?

How does the SprayMaster™ system work?

A series of spray nozzles emits specially formulated insecticide to control flies, mosquitoes, gnats and other flying insects.
What kind of insecticide is used in SprayMater™ systems?
We recommend that SprayMaster™ and other misting systems be refilled with the highest quality pyrethrums and Permethrin (a synthetic form of pyrethrum) 1-10HP, 1-10HPS, Zero-Bite™, Bug Armor™ and Stock Guard™ are considered premium formulations that control a wider range of insects than competitive products. Will Pyranha insecticide work in my non-Pyranha system?
Yes, Pyranha concentrate is the original misting system concentrate designed exclusively for automatic misting systems and will make any well made automatic misting system more effective and will produce less clogging.

How to do I winterize my SprayMaster System?
Disconnect the line at the elbow (next to pressure gauge) and open the bleed valve at the end. Using an air compressor, blow liquid from the line until dry. Lift the top and raise the intake filter out of the liquid; set timer switch to “ON” and run briefly to eliminate any liquid in the equipment. If you do not have a compressor, keep line disconnected at elbow to empty the lines of as much liquid as possible. Leave intake line and filter separated from liquid. If the insecticide liquid freezes during the winter, you will need to stir the contents before reusing. (Reconnecting System After Winterizing) After stirring the contents of your barrel, replace the top of the system taking care not to crimp the intake line, return line or float line. Open bleed valve and run system long enough to remove the air in the lines. Check your timer to verify the time is correct and the settings are correct.
What is Pyrethrum?
Pyrethrum is an insecticide derived from a plant extract of the species of the genus Chrysanthemum (Daisy), native to southwestern Asia, Australia and Africa, whose aromatic flower heads, when powdered, constitute the active ingredient Pyrethrin. The main active ingredients in Pyrethrin is a mixture of four compounds: Pyrethrin I and II and Cinerin II and I.
Is Pyrethrum harmful?
Pyrethrum has shown to have low level of toxicity to mammals. This family of insecticides is EPA registered for use in many household products and livestock treatment as well for treating unwanted pests in edible plants and fruits. Used properly and at the concentrations stated in the label instructions, Pyrethrum should not be harmful. Pyrethrum and Permethrin related products should always be used in accordance to the product label instructions. Also be sure to check out our Zero-Bite™ product which combines the goodness of natural products like geraniol, wintergreen, peppermint and coconut and contains zero chemical pesticides. ZERO!
Will pyrethrum harm my pets?
No, If used properly as directed in the label Pyrethrum is considered to have a low toxicity to humans and pets (mammals). Pyrethrum insecticides have been used in agriculture and equine applications for over 40 years, with no known harmful effects.
